MECHANICAL DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
OIL & GAS INDUSTRY
NEAR CARDIFF

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design/Development Engineer to join a small and friendly Sustaining Engineering Team based near Cardiff in South Wales. This company is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of precision, innovative downhole electromechanical data acquisition instrumentation for the worldwide oil and gas industry. Their products are used to measure of flow, pressure, temperature and other parameters within the well bore.

As Mechanical Design/ Development Engineer you will be required to provide on-going support for the existing product range and for in-house production operations and to design fast-turnaround solutions to meet and solve specific client requirements and problems.

You will be involved in conceptual mechanical design to internal/client specifications, compiling Technical Proposal & Specification documents, cealing with machine shop technical queries and assisting the Assembly and Test team with mechanical issues and actioning solutions.

You will be required to carry out 3-D modelling using Pro-Engineer and 2-D drawing with AutoCad, to produce and modify high quality engineering drawings, as well as the proposal of test schedules and plans for new products. The Mechanical Design/ Development Engineer will also provide production support for in-house manufacturing and production groups, analysis of field failures and propose remedial action and will compile and update mechanical sections of product operations and maintenance manuals.

To succeed as Mechanical Design/ Development Engineer you should be qualified to at least HNC/HND level with sound experience of 2-D / 3-D design/drafting, in particular Pro-Engineer, 2001i onwards and AutoCad. You must have proven experience of solid modeling, problem solving/concept design skills, mechanical trouble-shooting and investigation and practical mechanical aptitude and sympathy.

Knowledge of threads, fasteners, simple stress calculations as well as machine shop practice and manufacturing techniques is also required and you should have some drawing office practice.

Excellent written English and verbal communication skills are essential and you will need the ability to work with minimum supervision and to challenging deadlines in a fast changing, high pressure environment. Consistent, enthusiastic and self-motivated you will work well both independently and as part of a small team.
